R&D Development Engineer – Photonics Assembly & Test (m/f/d)
immediately & full time
Salary: €55,000 – €60,000 gross per year (depending on qualifications and professional experience)
Your Challenge
As an R&D Development Engineer Photonics Assembly & Test, you will actively shape the development of high-precision manufacturing and test processes for optoelectronic and photonic systems. You will work hands-on with advanced automated equipmentfrom experimental development in the lab to implementation in real-world applications. In doing so, you combine deep technical expertise with structured project execution in an international environment.
- Plan, execute, and evaluate experiments, and develop robust assembly and test processes
- Work hands-on with automated assembly systems, optical setups, and high-precision metrologydirectly impacting real applications
- Analyze complex technical challenges, identify root causes, and drive sustainable improvements in processes and system performance
- Take ownership of technical work packages and closely collaborate with internal teams, customers, and external partners
- Contribute to publicly funded R&D projects through structured documentation, milestone tracking, and transparent reporting
Your Profile
- PhD in engineering, physics, photonics, or a related field, or 3–5 years of relevant experience in R&D, laboratory engineering, or automation
- Broad technical understanding of photonics/optics, precision mechanics, automation, and metrology
- Hands-on experience with complex laboratory setups, optical systems, and high-precision measurement equipment
- Experience in technical project environments, e.g. application engineering, customer projects, or work package ownership
- Experience with fiber optics, photonic packaging, or precision assembly is a strong plus
- Ability to work independently and drive topics from concept through to implementation
- Strong analytical thinking and pragmatic problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Confident communication skills and ability to collaborate across interdisciplinary teams and external partners
- Fluent English required; German is a plus
