The Philosophy of Mind research group (Prof. Dr. Sven Walter) of the Institute of Cognitive Science is seeking to appoint a

Research Assistant (m/f/d)
(salary grade 13 TV-L, 100% for a Postdoc position or 2 x 50% for Ph.D. candidates)

To commence work at the earliest possible date. This is a temporary, three-year position.


Your Duties:

  • The position involves teaching Cognitive Science courses at B.Sc. and M.Sc. level (4 hours/week).
  • The successful candidate is expected to complement existing research of the Philosophy of Mind and Cognition group, in particular in connection with the group’s past and ongoing research regarding both philosophical theories of cognition and emotion research.
  • The successful candidate has to contribute to the group’s academic activities, in particular to the active acquisition of third-party funding.
  • Opportunity to work towards a PhD or Habilitation (venia legendi) during working hours.

Requirements:

  • Completed master's degree in philosophy (or equivalent).
  • If applying for a postdoc position, an excellent doctoral degree (Dr. phil., PhD or equivalent) in philosophy.
  • Provable specialization in theoretical philosophy and philosophy of mind
  • Areas of competence that allow you to conduct independent and collaborative research (both intra- and transdisciplinary) on one of the following two topics: 1) the philosophy of cognitive science and the metaphysics of mind; or 2) the philosophy of emotions and situated affectivity.
  • A good command of the English language is mandatory.

Additional Qualifications:

  • A research project that can be connected to either research on theories of computation or to research on emotional experience in asexuality or polyamory is especially appreciated.

The position is available on a full-time or part-time basis.
